Botox

How it Works and its Uses

BOTOX® Cosmetic works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles, which temporarily reduces muscle activity. This relaxation of the muscles smooths the skin and softens the appearance of wrinkles.

FDA-Approved Cosmetic Uses: It is approved to temporarily improve the appearance of:

  • Moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines) between the eyebrows
  • Moderate to severe crow's feet lines around the outer corners of the eyes.
  • Moderate to severe forehead lines (worry lines)
  • Vertical bands connecting the jaw and neck (platysma bands).

Procedure Details: The treatment is a quick, minimally invasive injection procedure that typically requires little to no downtime. Results usually appear within three to seven days and last between three to four months, though this can vary by individual.

Safety and Side Effects: When administered by a licensed and experienced professional, BOTOX® Cosmetic is generally considered safe.

Common Side Effects: Most side effects are mild and temporary, including pain, swelling, or bruising at the injection site; headache or flu-like symptoms; temporary drooping eyelids or eyebrows, dry eyes or blurred vision.

Serious, but Rare, Side Effects: In rare cases, the effect of the botulinum toxin may spread to other areas of the body and cause serious, life-threatening symptoms, including problems with swallowing, speaking, or breathing, and all-over muscle weakness. It is crucial to seek immediate medical help if any of these symptoms occur.

Who Should Avoid Botox: You should not receive BOTOX® Cosmetic if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, have a skin infection at the injection site, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have certain muscle or nerve conditions.
